Answer: You should make your best effort to find out what the direction is. This may include asking trustworthy muslims. You pray in the direction you feel is correct based on this effort. If you later found out you were wrong, then you do not need to pray again (provided you had made an effort to find the correct direction). The correct direction is the one you would be in if you faced the ka3bah in Mekkah and walked straight backwards until you reached Cincinatty or anywhere else that you are praying. Avoid arguing about this matter with those who may disagree with your conclusion. Everyone is responsible for himself in this matter.
