Answer: She is not buried. A pit is dug where she is placed for stoning. This pit serves as a veil based on the principle of veiling for women in general. No pit is made for the man, because the purpose of Hadd is to make the punishment known. To make a pit for the woman up to the level of her chest is not a duty but a sunnah.
